5 tips to improve your small business’ off-site SEO

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation and refers to the practices used to draw website traffic from search engines like Google – ensuring that when people are searching for your products or services online – you come up.

There are two types of SEO activities – on-site SEO – dealing with specific elements on a website; and off-site SEO – promoting your website.

Off-site SEO counts towards around 80% of your total SEO – it’s an easy win for driving mass traffic to your website – and diverting it away from your competitors. 

Understanding SEO is vital for any company looking to increase website traffic and brand awareness. However, just when you think you’ve got a grasp, the most effective strategies can suddenly change on a whim. Google’s algorithms are constantly being updated, so you need to remain ahead of the game.

The name of the game is driving masses of high-traffic and appearing on websites that search engines ‘like’ (equally, masses of high-quality traffic).

Today, we’re sharing 5 techniques for improving off-site SEO.

1. Social media – you may not think that social media and SEO come hand-in-hand, but the worlds of Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram are becoming increasingly influential when it comes to SEO.  Having a positive social media presence will encourage users to visit your website and view your content. Be active, monitor your reputation, and strive to create sharable, engaging content. And Social Media ads is a powerful traffic driver – if done right!

2. Other Google products – Google loves itself (obvs) so make sure you have a presence of her sister sites – Google My Business is a must (and don’t forget to post on it alongside your other Social Media posts); and remember video content – with Youtube you are only fighting against other videos instead of web pages and it’s getting more and more popular (it’s estimated that in 2019 video searches will be 84% of total consumer internet traffic).

3. Guest blogging – also known as guest posting, is the practice of contributing a post to another person’s blog to create new relationships, exposure, authority, and links. Links are a primary ranking factor in Google, so guest blogging offers a strong opportunity to secure a link back from another website.

4. Directories – make sure you have entries on free directories such as Yelp and local / sector-relevant directories for you – it’s all free traffic!

5. PR – the further you reach, the more you will get noticed. Try and attract the public by giving interviews, working with influencers, and making good connections with journalists. Offer journalists unique and exciting stories that allow them to write about your business, resulting in more brand awareness, organic traffic, and business opportunities; and with a link on an online site (known as backlinks) – that will further your off-site SEO game.
